Dutch Mall shooting leaves at least 7 dead

A gunman opened fire with an automatic weapon at a mall outside Amsterdam on Saturday, killing at least seven people and injuring 15 other people, Dutch officials said.

The Mayor of Alphen aan den Rijn, Bas Eenhoorn, said initially that six had died in the shooting at the Mall Ridderhof, including the gunman, but people injured died in increasing the number of dead to seven.

"It is too terrible for words, a shock to us all, said Eenhoorn.".

The identity of the shooter was known and it was "all but certain" he acted alone, Kitty Nooy District Attorney said.

The suburb is less than 25 kilometres southwest of Amsterdam.
